War criminal Mitar Vasiljević dies in Višegrad at the age of 70

(Patria) - War criminal Mitar Vasiljević died yesterday in Višegrad at the age of 70.

This Višegrad monster was finally convicted in 2004 in The Hague to 15 years in prison for crimes against Bosniaks in Višegrad and its surroundings, and he served his sentence in a prison in Austria.

He was arrested by SFOR members on January 25, 2000, and transferred to the UN detention unit in Scheveningen the same day.

He was released after serving two-thirds of his sentence and was welcomed as a hero in Višegrad.

Criminal Vasiljević was a member of the paramilitary formation "Beli orlovi" (White Eagles), led by the criminal Milan Lukić, who was sentenced to life imprisonment.

During 1992 in Višegrad, according to the Hague verdict, Serbian forces killed a large number of unarmed Muslim civilians.

"Many bodies of Muslims – men, women, and children, killed in the town and on the historic Ottoman bridge over the Drina – were thrown into the Drina River.

Serbian forces carried out systematic looting and destruction of Muslim homes. Both city mosques were completely demolished," the verdict against Vasiljević states.

Despite this, Vasiljević was given a celebratory welcome in the town. Upon his arrival in Višegrad, Vasiljević told several hundred Višegrad residents:

"Never happier in my life, never! I greet all my Serbs, men and women, and others, the youth, especially the children who were not born during my absence.

I greet you, Višegrad. I greet every village. I have no words. Naturally, one hundred percent unjust. Lies!"

The welcome was accompanied by Chetnik iconography, and Vasiljević himself wore a traditional fur hat with a cockade.

Vasiljević will be buried tomorrow at the Višegrad city cemetery Kosovo Polje.
