(Patria) - In front of a large turnout of domestic and foreign officials, veteran and war victim associations, and representatives of religious communities, the film "Aggression on Truth" by Avdo Huseinović premiered tonight at the Sarajevo City Hall.
This is the first investigative documentary film with which, as the author stated in an interview with Fena, "we are confronting a large army of deniers of genocide and other forms of crime".
- For decades, responsibility for the Markale market massacre has been denied and falsified, and criminals have been presented as victims. Therefore, the images of this great crime will remain a permanent burden for the perpetrators of the crime.
Also, in the film, I reveal how the Government of Republika Srpska and Serbia financed projects of denial and falsification of historical facts with millions of funds, for which there are final verdicts from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague and domestic courts - said Huseinović.
He adds that the film was shown on this day because exactly 30 years ago, the Markale massacre was committed, carried out by artillerymen of the Army of Republika Srpska's Sarajevo-Romanija Corps.
Tonight's premiere was realized with the general patronage of the City of Sarajevo, and before all attendees, Mayor Benjamina Karić presented the author of the film with a letter of thanks for his contribution to preserving the culture of remembrance and documenting historically relevant facts that are key to building sustainable peace and the rule of law.
- The film 'Aggression on Truth' is based precisely on established historical and documented facts, with the help of which crimes committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia have been illuminated.
The fight for truth and justice is exhaustive and long-term but achievable. Truth and justice are the reason for multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it has always been, the pride of all of us, and a true meeting of different civilizations that still make Europe special today - emphasized Karić.
The realization of the film was supported, among others, by the Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Elvedin Okerić, who believes that "we have needed this film for a long time".
- It is never too late for the truth. We must not stop here, but rather work more actively and support projects that shed light on every segment of our history from the period of aggression.
In Avdo Huseinović's film, we were reminded, in order to learn a lesson and a warning, that criminals were ready to kill innocent citizens, children, but that they are even more ready to kill the truth.
Every day, an attempt is made to create a narrative that the victims are to blame for being killed. Therefore, it is our obligation to ensure that projects and activities that oppose false narratives see the light of day - Okerić told representatives of the executive and legislative authorities in BiH, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps.
Among them was the Vice President of the Federation of BiH, Refik Lendo, who believes that Avdo Huseinović showed how an author shapes history and presents it to the audience.
He says the film is an excellent basis for researching ways we can view history through film (visual) art, which is becoming increasingly prevalent today.
- For this reason, this film remains a permanent document for young people for their studies of crimes during the aggression against BiH.
Young people must never forget what happened in these areas and therefore should work together to build a better country, BiH - concluded Lendo for Fena.
Among others, the premiere of the film was attended by the mayors of Stari Grad and Novo Sarajevo municipalities, Irfan Čengić and Hasan Tanović, who also supported the realization of the film produced by the Association Pravda.
