The legend of Bosnian sevdah, Muhamed Mujkanović from Tuzla, passed away on Friday, January 9th at the University Clinical Center Tuzla at the age of 74, following a severe stroke, reports the Patria News Agency.
A commemoration on the occasion of the death of Muhamed Mujkanović will be held on Tuesday, January 13th, starting at 11 AM at the Bosnian Cultural Center, Tuzla. The final farewell will take place the same day at 12:30 PM in front of the Commemorative Center in Tuzla.
Muhamed Mujkanović was born in 1941 and had been involved in music since 1960. He preserved many Bosnian sevdalinka songs from oblivion.
He belongs to the generation of Bosnian-Herzegovinian sevdalinka performers for whom BiH is recognized worldwide. He recorded about 300 archival recordings of folk music, 30 singles, 20 video cassettes, 30 audio cassettes, and is also the author of 40 of his own compositions. He has received numerous awards.
