Bone Marrow Bank Headquarters Opened in Štrosmajerova Street

By cutting the ceremonial ribbon today, the headquarters of the Bone Marrow Bank project officially began its work at Štrosmajerova Street 3/I. Previously, an action to collect blood samples from potential donors was organized in front of the Cathedral. Expectations are that Bosnia and Herzegovina will soon have a bone marrow stem cell bank so that patients suffering from malignant bone marrow diseases can finally be treated in our country as well, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The director of the "Bone Marrow Bank" project and vice-president of the "Mala" Association, Amela Sućeska, emphasized today that BiH is the only country in the region that does not have a bone marrow bank, but she hopes that this could change by the end of the year. She thanked the Municipality of Stari Grad for the support it continuously provides to this project. The Mayor of the Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, is the first registered donor and ambassador of the bone marrow bank project. The premises where the bank's headquarters were opened today were also provided by the Municipality of Stari Grad.

- We started supporting this project four years ago when I, as the first citizen in BiH, donated blood to the bone marrow bank. Now the Municipality has provided the premises in Štrosmajerova Street for use. By obtaining a bone marrow bank, numerous sick citizens will be helped, who will now perform certain transplantations much easier, faster, and cheaper than was the case before - said Hadžibajrić.

Hadžibajrić, together with Vedran Marčinka, advisor in the Federal Ministry of Health, and Abdulkadir Tuco, president of the "Mala" Association, cut the ribbon, officially marking the beginning of the operation of these premises.
