Anniversary of the Patriotic League of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina marked in Srebrenik

(Patria) - By laying flowers at the memorial, the 29th anniversary of the Patriotic League of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked in the center of Srebrenik.

The president of the Association "Patriotic League Srebrenik" Fadil Duranović emphasized that the members of the Patriotic League were the initiators of the resistance who, in a way, influenced the consciousness of the citizens, selflessly dedicating themselves and their lives to the defense of this city and country.

"We were actively engaged from September 18, 1991, because we knew we would be attacked. Later, on April 11, the same people founded the Volunteer Company, which was actively engaged until the end of the war. The Volunteer Company had the most fallen fighters," said Duranović, adding that demobilized fighters are a neglected category and that the Association will fight for fighters and first-time fighters to receive the status they deserve. 

The Patriotic League was the first unit that bravely opposed the aggressor, therefore we must never forget the greatest patriots and patriots who wove their lives into the foundations of BiH, emphasized the Mayor of Srebrenik, Nihad Omerović.

"This date is very significant for every citizen of Srebrenik as well as BiH. I want to express my full support and gratitude to the Association "Patriotic League Srebrenik" for preserving the memory of those who wove their lives into the foundations of BiH in this way. We have been an active support to all veteran associations, both when it comes to marking important dates and when it comes to their existential needs," said Omerović, adding that in the coming period, this support must be much stronger and more concrete.

After laying flowers, the regular assembly of the Patriotic League was held, where, among other things, a financial report was presented and plans for the next year were announced, with an emphasis on restoring the status of first-time fighters and volunteer fighters and removing from the list all those who should not be there.
