First surgery book by Bosnian authors promoted in Sarajevo

The promotion of a seminal book on modern surgery, "Hirurgija/Kirurgija", written by a group of 16 top Bosnian surgeons and 11 co-authors from across BiH, was held at the Sarajevo City Hall. 
This is the first surgery book in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, containing 22 chapters and covering all areas of surgery across 1,246 pages. It is intended for the advanced training of students and residents, as well as experienced doctors.

Eminent experts from five state medical faculties in Tuzla, Sarajevo, Foča, Mostar, and Banja Luka have pooled their knowledge and practice, and according to reviewers, have written a top-tier textbook.
Prof. Dr. Samir Delibegović, one of the authors, stated at the promotion that the work on the book took about 3 years and that its users will have concentrated knowledge with a lot of data in one place. The book is written to be modern, clear, and to easily guide students and surgical residents to important topics.

It presents the latest information, as surgery is a dynamic discipline that is rapidly changing, advancing, and modernizing, with technology and robotics being the main characteristics of this process.

Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović also addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of such a textbook for students and all who will use it. A special value of the book lies in the fact that it is the first time that the knowledge and experience of surgeons from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina have been consolidated, which will greatly benefit generations of students.

The Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Rifat Škrijelj, congratulated the authors of "Hirurgija", thanking them on behalf of all public universities for uniting their knowledge in difficult times for the general good. The Sarajevo promotion was attended by several authors from across BiH, as well as Mario Nenadić, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Draško Jeličić, Minister of Economy and Acting Minister of Health of KS, Director of the Public Health Institute, Aida Pilav, and other public figures.

The group of authors responsible for this major project includes the following surgeons: Samir Delibegović, Ismet Gavrankapetanović , Ismar Rašić, Nermir Granov, Mirsad Hodžić, Reuf Karabeg , Goran Krdžalić,
Benjamin Kulovac, Ante Kvesić, Nenad Lalović, Siniša Maksimović, Radmilo Marić, Fuad Pašić, Nedžad Rustempašić, Milan Simatović, and Nikica Šutalo.

"Hirurgija/Kirurgija" was published by Dobra knjiga Sarajevo and the Association of Endoscopic Surgeons of BiH, and after Sarajevo, its promotion is planned in Tuzla, Mostar, Banja Luka, and Foča.
