Book by Ante Nobilo promoted in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - In the amphitheater of the UNITIC Business Center in Sarajevo, the promotion of the book "Defense of Croatian counter-intelligence officer Josip Perković in German court" by Croatian lawyer Ante Nobilo was held this evening.

The book was discussed in Sarajevo by the former President of the Republic of Croatia and the last President of SFRY, Stjepan Mesić, historian and professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Husnija Kamberović, journalist and editor from Sarajevo, Faruk Vele, BiH lawyers Vladimir Adamović and Duško Tomić, journalist from Zagreb, Drago Pilsel, and the author Nobilo.

Josip Perković is a Croatian counter-intelligence officer convicted for the murder of emigrant Stjepan Đureković in 1983. Last December, the Zagreb County Court commuted the life sentence of the German court for him and Zdravko Mustač to a 30-year prison sentence to be served in a Croatian prison.
They are accused of responsibility for the murder of Đureković in Wolfratshausen near Munich, who was killed by perpetrators currently unknown.

In his book, lawyer Nobilo argues that Đureković was not a political emigrant, but an agent of the German secret service who worked against Yugoslavia and was neutralized as such by the Yugoslav security services themselves, whose task was to protect the country's constitutional order.

Historian Husnija Kamberović, speaking about the book, said that it is important in a historical context to show who ordered the murders and who was behind them.

The book shows that Yugoslavia did not kill political emigrants, but it did kill extremists and terrorists, with whom Yugoslavia dealt even before they arrived in Yugoslavia, Kamberović said, highlighting the "Bugojno group" as an example of a terrorist group that worked against Yugoslavia. 

Speaking about the author Nobilo himself, Sarajevo journalist Faruk Vele said that Nobilo's new book is not surprising, as he is a man who is always on the side of the victim, even when he is exposed to public criticism for his views, which, Vele added, Nobilo also showed in the case of war crimes in BiH when he was on the side of the victim even when the state was against the victim.

Lawyer Vlado Adamović said that Nobilo's book shows that there are flaws in the large German system, which convicted Perković, and that even in developed societies there are those who succumb to base passions, accusing German judge Manfred Dausterz for the verdict against Perković.

Former President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić, emphasized that after reading Ante Nobilo's book, which he said is truthful, many things from legal and international relations become clearer to the reader.

"Germany experienced a catharsis after World War II and today leads in the Europeanization of Europe. But this book shows that Germany's judiciary has not fully experienced a catharsis," Mesić said, adding that remnants remain in Germany's judiciary to this day, as shown by the German court's verdict in the Perković case.
