History Fest opens in Sarajevo

SARAJevo, (Patria) - History Fest opened tonight at the National Museum in Sarajevo. This event is organized on the occasion of significant historical anniversaries being marked in 2018.

This year marks the 140th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Berlin (1878), 100 years since the end of World War I and the creation of the first Yugoslav state (1918), 70 years since the break between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union (1948), and 50 years since the student protests (1968).

Topics to be discussed during the History Fest, which runs from June 3rd, include: What did Yugoslavia, created at the end of World War I, signify, how do we remember Yugoslavia today, and how is the Yugoslav past being revised?

What is the meaning of the fateful decisions of 1948, and how important was the student movement of 1968 in the context of broader global processes of the 1960s?

In what ways are doctoral theses on the history of Yugoslavia being written today at universities in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Nikšić, Graz, Berlin, Munich, Regensburg, Bologna...?

Scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Russia, France, the USA, China, Turkey, Greece... will discuss all these topics in Sarajevo.

In addition to these debates, there will be presentations of the latest books, discussions about monuments and their use in historical revisionism, lectures on methods of historical revisionism, and similar topics.

Also, as part of the Fest, the Sarajevo premiere of the documentary film "The Spirit of the Time" is announced, as well as a conversation with the film's director Lordan Zafranović and screenwriter and producer Nataša Mišković, NAP reports.
