March 8th March in Sarajevo Today: 'I Want to Live from My Work'

(Patria) - An informal group of activists from Bosnia and Herzegovina will organize the March 8th March in Sarajevo today under the slogan "I Want to Live from My Work!".

"On the occasion of International Women's Day, we march for dignified work, workplace safety, and equal pay.

For working conditions worth living. We march against unpaid and underpaid work in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We march for a better life for all of us.

We march in solidarity with women whose rights are systematically violated, whether they are underpaid, forced to work weekends and overtime without compensation or annual leave, or subjected to mobbing and sexual harassment in the workplace.

While the above is among the most common labor violations, women are doubly marginalized in the labor market also because they have no paid leave for childcare, because as soon as they become pregnant they lose their job or chance of employment, because they are paid less than their male colleagues for the same work. So raise your voice, take your banner and come out to the march!

The March 8th March is not just a protest - it is a message to the powerful, authorities and employers, that female workers are not slaves and that we will not remain silent while they profit and exploit us.

It is a historical struggle that continues and from which we will not give up. Join us in the fight for life, not survival," the organizers said.

The gathering is announced at the Trade Union Hall from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM, after which the march will head to the Historical Museum where speeches and a short musical program will be held.
