Sarajevo Taxi Bill from 2005, Priced in Dinars!

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - According to the Law on Taxi Transport in the Canton of Sarajevo, specifically Article 10, a taxi driver is obliged to issue a receipt to the passenger for the transport provided. If the taxi driver does not do so themselves, you have the right to request a receipt.

Research conducted by the Patria agency with Sarajevo taxi drivers has shown that you will not receive a receipt unless you ask for it. In most cases, taxi drivers provided an official receipt with the fare written on it.

However, an interesting situation occurred in one of the taxis where the driver, when asked if he could issue a receipt, very kindly did so. The date on the issued receipt was 22.02.2005, and the price was expressed in dinars instead of convertible marks!

Inspection controls of taxi carriers in the Canton of Sarajevo have not yielded proper results, so we still have numerous illegal taxi drivers.

In case a passenger enters an illegal taxi, they risk a fine of 50 KM. When hailing a taxi, you should check if the vehicle has license plates with the letter designation "TA", a lit roof taxi sign, and an additional taxi sign affixed to the front windshield. Or call one of the registered taxi services in the Canton of Sarajevo.

Also, a taxi driver must not refuse short rides or drive without the meter running, as in that case, you are not obliged to pay for the ride.

- If passengers notice such a violation of the rules, they should report it to the taxi association or another legal entity performing this activity, or to the competent cantonal inspection. In case of violation of passenger rights, in accordance with federal regulations, the offender faces the confiscation of the taxi sign and the license to perform taxi activities - it was previously announced by the KS Ministry of Transport.

A taxi carrier for whom the additional taxi sign has not been issued by the KS Ministry of Transport cannot perform taxi transport in this canton, except in the case of transiting the territory of the Canton of Sarajevo. The Law on Taxi Transport in KS provides for fines ranging from 3,000.00 to 15,000.00 KM for illegal taxi carriers.
