21-year-old miner injured in RMU Breza, doctors fighting for his life

A young miner from Breza was seriously injured in an accident that occurred at the Breza Brown Coal Mine early on Sunday morning, Patria reports.

Miner Amir Avdukić (21) was injured in a mine corridor. He is currently at the Clinical Center in Sarajevo, where doctors have been fighting for his life for the third day. According to available information, the young miner is still in a life-threatening condition.

RMU Breza Director Ćamil Zaimović confirmed to Patria that the accident occurred during the third shift and that supervisory services are conducting an investigation.

Zaimović said that the area where the miner was injured was ventilated with fresh air, and there was no need for the use of self-rescuers. One of the reasons cited for the miner's serious condition is precisely that he did not receive oxygen in time.

Zaimović said that doctors from the Breza Health Center descended 800 meters into the mine to help the injured miner, risking their own lives.

He thanked Dr. Mirza Ahmedspahić and nurse Edina Avdukić, who went into the mine in ordinary medical uniforms.

- The miner received adequate assistance. The doctors did everything they could. The transport of the injured miner to Sarajevo was also completed in record time - said Zaimović.

Arif Šabanović, president of the RMU Breza union, said that he is currently with the family of the injured miner, but that the news from the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo is unfortunately not optimistic, Patria writes.
