(Patria) - Organized by the Green Club and the Center for Policy and Governance in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PSBiH), an analysis titled "Critical Materials in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Potential, Perspectives and Challenges" will be presented today, along with a panel discussion called "Critical Resources in BiH: from bauxite to lithium – resources of the future or a threat to the environment?", which is one of the first events in institutions on this topic open to the public.
While heated debates about critical materials and their exploitation are taking place in neighboring countries, often escalating into public expressions of opinions for and against mining, in Bosnia and Herzegovina there is no dialogue on this topic.
The goal of presenting the analysis, which provides insight into global trends, European Union policies in this area, geological potential in BiH, and economic, environmental and social considerations in this context, as well as the panel discussion, is to encourage a broader debate on the role of extractivism in the strategic development of the country, and the potential and challenges in this context.
As the organizers confirmed, the goal of this event is by no means to take a stance or lobby for any position, but the sole intention of this panel discussion is to offer information and new knowledge to decision-makers, as well as to encourage discussion on a topic that will, inevitably, very soon be intensely present in our country as well.
It is expected that, in addition to members of parliament from the Green Club, this event will also be attended by representatives of institutions from various levels of government, as well as experts in the fields of geology, ecology and economic sciences, announced by the Public Relations Sector of the PSBiH.
