Five expeditions to Bosnian pyramids in the past two months

Preliminary analysis of the new program of the Foundation “Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun” called “Expeditions to the Bosnian Pyramids with Volunteering” is experiencing complete success, and the first half of the program has already been realized during June and July 2015, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The Foundation hosted the first five Expeditions. The hosts on behalf of the Foundation were accredited guide Ajdin Ahmetspahić, geologist Mejra Kozlo, and graduate archaeologist Anela Preljević.

This year, the Foundation expects about a hundred participants of the Expeditions who, during their ten-day stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, spend four days volunteering at archaeological sites. So far, they have volunteered at the site of the prehistoric Underground Labyrinth Ravne, at the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, and the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon.

In addition to volunteering accompanied by their hosts, they visit the megalithic walls of Daorson near Stolac, the mysterious stećci in Radimlja, the spiritual dervish tekke in Blagaj, medieval fortresses in Vranduk and Travnik, the monastery in Kraljeva Sutjeska, the Old Bridge in Mostar, Ottoman-style bazaars, and museums in Sarajevo and Mostar, the “Archaeological Park: Bosnian Stone Balls” in Zavidovići, and the unique Kravica waterfall near Ljubuški, where they also swim.

Participants of the Expeditions came from twenty countries: Denmark, Austria, Canada, the United States of America, Belgium, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Russia, Great Britain, Lithuania, Sweden, Romania, Spain, Australia, Poland, and the Netherlands.

Parallel to the program “Expedition to the Bosnian Pyramids with Volunteering” is the volunteering program itself, in which interested individuals provide their own accommodation and transport to the archaeological sites. About fifty such volunteers are working at the sites during this season.

This brings the total number of interested young people working for free alongside Foundation employees in Visoko and participating in discoveries to 150.

The questionnaires filled out after the program shows enormous satisfaction from the guests for the opportunity they were given to participate as non-professionals under expert supervision in the Bosnian pyramids project, which forever changes our view of ancient history. At the same time, everyone is pleasantly surprised by other megalithic sites as well as the beauties of BiH.
