No classes on Monday, December 26 in Sarajevo Canton

The Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton has made a decision to amend the school calendar for the 2016/2017 academic year, according to which on Monday, December 26, 2016, no teaching process will be carried out in all primary and secondary schools in the area of Sarajevo Canton, making this day a non-working and non-school day.

Given that this year Christmas is celebrated on Sunday, December 25, 2016, the Ministry received a certain number of requests to amend the school calendar for the 2016/2017 academic year, so that Monday, December 26, 2016, would be declared a non-working and non-school day.

As is known, in the last three years, the school calendar has provided for the observance of religious holidays – Christmas and Easter (Orthodox and Catholic), in a way that in educational institutions in the area of Sarajevo Canton, the mentioned religious holidays are observed as non-working and non-school days.

They also emphasized that the classes planned for Monday, December 26, 2016, will be made up by the end of the school year, and the Ministry will inform all schools in a timely manner about the date for making up this school day.

School administrations have also been instructed to inform all students and their parents about the said decision in a timely manner.
