33rd Summer Olympics ceremonially opened in Paris

(Patria) - The 33rd Summer Olympic Games were ceremonially opened in Paris this evening.

The opening ceremony was unique because, unlike the usual program at the Olympic stadium, this time it was held on the Seine River and Trocadéro Square.

From 6,000 to 7,000 athletes (out of a total of 10,714), representing participating nations, paraded in 85 boats down the Seine in the colours of their delegation, from the Austerlitz bridge to the Eiffel Tower and Trocadéro.

Around 3,000 dancers, musicians, and actors participated in the artistic part of the ceremony.

Paris is hosting for the third time in history, after 1900 and 1924, thus joining London at the top, which also organized the Olympic Games three times - in 1908, 1948, and 2012.

10,714 athletes are participating in the Games, in 32 sports, from 206 countries and territories, plus a group of athletes who will compete under the IOC flag, as well as the Refugee Team.

Due to the war in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus are not participating in team sports.

Five competitors from BiH are also participating in the Olympic Games, with the highest expectations for the best BiH swimmer, Lana Pudar.

The flags of BiH were carried this evening by Larisa Cerić and Mesud Pezer, and besides them, Jovan Lekić and Aleksandra Samardžić will also compete at the Olympic Games.

The Olympic Games will last until August 11, and the closing ceremony will be held at the "France" stadium in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris.
