In Stari Grad Municipality, cash donations distributed to veteran population

This year as well, the Stari Grad Municipality has delighted members of the veteran population with appropriate cash donations on the occasion of the upcoming Bajram. According to the words of the municipal mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, a systemic solution as a sign of support and recognition of the rights of the veteran population has not yet been found, and these small gestures of attention are something that has been practiced in Stari Grad for years.

- Our tradition of distributing cash donations has lasted for almost ten years, and we gather like this on the occasion of Ramadan and Kurban Bajram and the Day of the Stari Grad Municipality. This is truly a small gesture of attention; systemic solutions by the state have unfortunately not been found, and they should have been implemented much, much earlier, twenty years ago. Now, in 2018, it is perhaps impossible to correct this - said Hadžibajrić.

The right to the Bajram gift of the Stari Grad Municipality was held by members of the families of martyrs who are on the municipal registry, unemployed demobilized fighters from the registry of the Employment Bureau of Stari Grad, and war veterans with disabilities according to lists provided to the Municipality by veteran associations from Stari Grad. Today, 175 were distributed, including 100 to martyr families, 50 to unemployed war veterans with disabilities, and 25 to unemployed demobilized fighters, with the total amount of distributed donations being 17,500 KM.

Emira Avdagić is from a martyr's family, and her husband died in the war.

- I work as a professor at the Secondary School of Economics, I am the mother of two students, and I intend to share this Bajram gift with them. This is the third time I have received this type of assistance, and I am very grateful to the Stari Grad Municipality. This kind of attention primarily means recognition for my late husband; the money is symbolic in this case - said Emira.

The donation was also presented today to Suad Meco, a war veteran with disabilities.

- Thank you on behalf of all of us who receive the gifts, and there are many of us. It means a lot to us because they remember us and give recognition for everything we did for our country and Stari Grad. Many gave the most important thing, their lives, and I and many others gave part of our own bodies - said Meco.

Hurija Dizdarević is also from a martyr's family, and the gift will help her with a richer Bajram table.

- We have been receiving this gift for years thanks to Mayor Hadžibajrić and the Stari Grad Municipality. This will mean a lot to my family for preparing a richer Bajram table, the inevitable baklava and burek, and a little Bajram celebration for the youngest - she said.
