Municipality Centar introduces a special counter for wheelchair users

As part of the project to remove architectural barriers for people who exclusively use wheelchairs, as well as other activities to make daily life easier for people with disabilities, the Municipality Centar has put into operation a special counter for wheelchair users in its service hall, reports Patria.

- On the occasion of December 3rd - International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we have put into operation a counter for wheelchair users in the service hall of the Municipality Centar, where they will be able to obtain extracts from civil registries or certified copies of documents, meaning all services provided by the Civil Registry Office of the Municipality Centar will be available to them in one place. We have also provided and marked two parking spaces in front of the Municipality Centar building for wheelchair users, which are operational as of today - explained Mirsada Lingo, Assistant Mayor for General Administration. Incidentally, this phase of the project was realized in cooperation with the municipal Service for General Administration and the Service for Veteran and Disability Protection.

Elvis Sudar, president of the Association of War Veterans with Disabilities Paraplegics of Sarajevo Canton, which initiated this project in cooperation with the municipal mayor Nedžad Ajnadžić, said that he is pleased that the representatives of the Municipality Centar recognized their initiative to remove the barriers they face daily, which is in line with the existing legal regulations that mandate the removal of architectural, psychological, and cultural barriers for persons with disabilities and reduced physical abilities.

- Thanks to this understanding, wheelchair users can now complete all their obligations at the Municipality Centar without any problems. During the next year, we plan to propose the continuation of this project, which involves removing architectural barriers in the Municipality Centar area, so that wheelchair users or people with reduced physical abilities can go to the cinema, theater, sports, entertainment, or cultural events without hindrance, which is our fundamental right - said Sudar.
