Alarming situation in municipalities of Vareš and Žepče, funds needed for damage repair

Representatives of the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund visited the municipalities of Vareš and Žepče, which were hit by heavy rainfall a few days ago, and determined significant material damage on site, assessing the situation as truly alarming.

In discussions with representatives of local authorities, it was emphasized that the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund, in accordance with its capabilities and legal procedures, is willing to assist and intervene in implementing measures for the protection and repair of damaged public water supply systems, damaged sewage systems, and the cleaning of riverbanks from packaging and other waste, reports Patria agency.

Fund employees advised the municipal authorities on how they can seek financial assistance and explained the procedures.

In Vareš, where a state of natural disaster was declared, the situation is dire, particularly in the city center where Bukov Potok overflowed. Numerous facilities were flooded, and road communication was interrupted due to landslides that endangered five houses in the village of Stupni Do.

The situation in the Municipality of Žepče is also severe and requires significant investment. On the M17 road section, the Željeznica River overflow caused the road to be buried and collapse. Due to the damage to the road infrastructure, some hamlets in the Željezno Polje local community were cut off and isolated from the rest of the Municipality of Žepče.

The enormous damage was partially mitigated by the engagement of the local population and civil protection to establish basic living conditions. However, as noted by the employees of the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund, substantial financial resources are needed to repair the damage and address the causes leading to such disasters.

The Fund will, in accordance with the conditions and procedures prescribed by law, do everything within its authority to assist the endangered population and municipalities, as has been the case in the past.
