Bosnia and Herzegovina for Free Palestine: Large Protest in Sarajevo on Sunday

(Patria) - A protest under the slogan "Bosnia and Herzegovina for Free Palestine" will be held in Sarajevo on Sunday, October 12, organized by an informal group of citizens.

The organizers are calling on citizens to join the protest in large numbers, which begins at 1:00 PM with a gathering at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Sarajevo (1992-1995).

After the gathering, the protest will continue with a march to the area between the National Museum of BiH and the Historical Museum of BiH, where demands will be read to BiH institutions for respect of international law, cessation of cooperation with Israel, and the initiation of concrete measures to support the Palestinian people.

"We address you at a time when the final offensive of the Zionist regime on Gaza and the West Bank is unfolding before the eyes of the world. The Palestinian people today face the threat of complete annihilation. Genocide is ongoing, while international institutions and world powers remain silent and incapable of stopping it," the organizers state.

Over the past two years, the Israeli Defense Forces have killed more than 67,000 people, including over 20,000 children, more than 270 journalists and media workers, over 1,500 doctors and healthcare workers, and at least 430 humanitarian workers. More than 460 people have died from starvation and malnutrition so far.

Therefore, the organizers have issued a special call to doctors and healthcare workers, journalists and media workers to come to the protest in white coats or with press badges, to express solidarity with their Palestinian colleagues in this way as well.

They also invited members of the Red Cross, rescuers, teachers, professors, educators, students, artists, musicians, actors, archival workers, and anti-fascist associations to join.

"Children and students in Gaza have not had even basic conditions for schooling for three years. Schools have been destroyed, classrooms turned into shelters, and teachers and professors are exposed to constant danger.

Therefore, the presence of educational workers at the protest is particularly important because they represent resistance to silence and oblivion, but also guarantee that truth and education endure even under the most difficult circumstances," the organizers emphasized.



They also invited students as representatives of the new generation that carries the future of this country. Their presence, they add, symbolizes the continuity of the struggle for justice and solidarity with their suffering peers in Gaza, who have been denied the right to education for the third year.

"Their visibility at the protest shows that young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina clearly stand on the side of humanity and freedom, which is also a guarantee of our own freedom," said the informal group of citizens.

During the protest, citizens will have the opportunity to sign a petition for the fulfillment of the demands that the organizers will later submit to BiH institutions. The petition is already available for online signing and sharing to ensure wider accessibility.

The organizers emphasize that the protest is peaceful and dignified and invite all citizens to bring banners and join the common voice of solidarity.

The protest is organized by an informal group of citizens, journalists, cultural, medical, and educational workers, activists, and others, united by the idea that their own tragic experience, as well as their anti-fascist heritage, obliges them to raise their voices against aggression, genocide, and apartheid anywhere in the world.

The organizers emphasize that the protest has no ethnic, religious, or ideological context, but is conceived as a forum for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in all their diversity, united in a resolute rejection of the normalization of genocide.

Protest Program:

● 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM - Gathering of citizens at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Sarajevo (1992-1995);
● 1:30 PM - 2:15 PM - Protest march through Maršala Tita and Zmaja od Bosne streets to Stage Park between the National Museum of BiH and the Historical Museum of BiH;
● 2:15 PM - 2:45 PM - Addresses by organizers, reading of demands, and a short cultural and artistic program;
● 2:45 PM - 3:00 PM - Peaceful dispersal of participants.

Protest Demands:

● Respect for international law;
● Sanctions and cessation of cooperation with Israel;
● Prohibition of participation of BiH citizens in Israeli military structures;
● Protection of the Palestinian people and urgent humanitarian support.
