Collective funeral and burial of seven Bosniak victims killed in 1992 to be held today at the Kamičani Memorial Centre

(Patria) - A collective funeral prayer and burial of the remains of seven victims from the past war in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held today at the Kamičani Memorial Centre in Kozarac.

These are victims of Bosniak ethnicity who were killed in 1992 in the areas of Kozarac, Hambarine, Rizvanovići and Prijedor, and their remains were exhumed in 1998 and 2024 at the sites of Donja Dragotinja, Pašinac, Volarić and Hušići.

The youngest victim to be buried this year is Semir (Aziz) Čelić, who was 24 years old when he was killed. He was born in 1968 in Prijedor, where he also went missing in August 1992.

His remains were found 32 years after his death, i.e. last year, when a mass grave was discovered at the Donja Dragotinja site, Grbići near Prijedor.

Semir will be buried together with his brother Edin, who was a year older and also killed in August 1992. Their remains were found in the same mass grave in April 2024.

The oldest victim to be buried is Kasim (Hasan) Bajrektarević, who was 70 years old at the time of death. He was killed in Prijedor, and his remains were exhumed at the Pašinac site, Prijedor, in 1998.

The victims to be buried this year in Prijedor are:

‣ Ismet (Meho) Sušić, born in 1931 in Kozaruša near Prijedor;
‣ Edin (Aziz) Čelić, born in 1967 in Zagreb;
‣ Semir (Aziz) Čelić, born in 1968 in Hambarine - Prijedor;
‣ Mehemed (Mehmed) Čikotić, born in 1960 in Hambarine - Prijedor;
‣ Mirsad (Idriz) Zečić, born in 1967 in Prijedor;
‣ Kasim (Hasan) Bajrektarević, born in 1922 in Kamičani - Kozarac, and
‣ Omer (Islam) Alagić, born in 1930 in Rizvanovići - Prijedor.

These victims will be buried in different cemeteries after the funeral prayer, in accordance with the wishes of their families.

Ismet Sušić and Kasim Bajrektarević will be buried in Kamičani, Edin Čelić, Semir Čelić and Mehmed Čikotić in the Hambarine Martyrs' Cemetery, while Omer Alagić will be buried in the Bišćani Martyrs' Cemetery.

Mirsad Zečić will find his final rest in the Skela Martyrs' Cemetery, the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
