Ten asylum seekers from BiH registered in Luxembourg last month

Most asylum seekers who came to Luxembourg this year originate from Montenegro (76), Kosovo (73), and Albania (72). In July alone, 84 asylum seekers from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa were registered, and ten from BiH, writes the Luxembourgish portal wort.lu, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

In addition to asylum seekers from BiH, 10 were registered from Serbia, 9 from Montenegro, 18 from Kosovo, 7 from Syria, 7 from Eritrea, 4 from Ukraine, 3 from Sierra Leone, and 2 from Cameroon.

Bakir Dautbašić, head of the Monitoring Team for monitoring the application of the visa-free regime, told the Patria agency that the largest number of BiH citizens go to Germany, and there are sporadic cases like this one with Luxembourg.

- They will not be granted asylum, because BiH is on the list of safe countries. Two options are possible: that the asylum seekers return voluntarily, or that the Luxembourg authorities return them to BiH with police escort – said Dautbašić, emphasizing that they have no information about these asylum seekers.

For the first seven months of this year, 537 people sought international protection (asylum), slightly fewer compared to the same period last year when the number of applications was 590. Luxembourg authorities have so far granted refugee status to 70 people, and in July, three applications were accepted.

More than 450 were rejected, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they are still processing 300 applications. This year, the number of Syrian citizens seeking asylum has also increased, considering the political situation and the war. Since the beginning of the year, 43 of them have sought refuge in Luxembourg.

Incidentally, according to the World Bank report for last year, Luxembourg is the country with the highest GDP per capita, which amounted to $111,162 per inhabitant.
