In Krajina, it is a shame not to attend the anniversary of the defence of Bužim

The Čevljanska korida was visited yesterday by more than 50,000 people, almost double the number of visitors at the 19th anniversary of the suffering of Bosniaks in Srebrenica on 11 July this year, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP). The number of those marking the day of the greatest genocide in Europe after the Second World War is decreasing every year, which was confirmed by Mersed Smajlović, director of the Potočari Memorial Centre.

Avdo Huseinović, a Bosnian publicist and researcher, says that the dignity of the fallen defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as civilians, is still preserved only by the people of Bužim. During the manifestation "Freedom Days of the Heroic City of Bužim", which lasts from 4 to 15 August, between 50,000 and 100,000 people gather.

On the other hand, at the anniversary of the suffering at the Markale market in Sarajevo, only a small group of people has gathered for several years. At the anniversary of the defence of Žuč and the death of the legendary commander Enver Šehović, which is marked in mid-July, about 30 citizens came this year.

- In Krajina, it is a shame for people not to come to the manifestation "Freedom Days of the Heroic City of Bužim". The people of Bužim especially mark the death of commander Izet Nanić - says Huseinović.

The weak attitude of Bosniaks towards sacred things, towards people who gave their lives for the freedom of Bosnia and Herzegovina, says Huseinović, should be attributed to the responsible institutions of the Federation of BiH, primarily the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs, writes NAP.

- If you offer people quality content, and warn them days before some anniversary about the importance of that date, then it is clear that people's awareness will awaken and they will know how to value important dates from the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina - says this publicist.

- Anniversaries of the suffering of Bosniaks, such as the suffering in Srebrenica or Prijedor, still have public attention, but I fear that in a few years, dates and anniversaries when a smaller number of people died or some heroes of the defence of BiH will be completely forgotten - warns Huseinović, writes NAP.
