Peaceful protest of citizens dissatisfied with deactivated traffic lights held in Konjic

(Patria) - A peaceful gathering of citizens dissatisfied with deactivated traffic lights on the M-17 highway was held today at Alija Izetbegović Statehood Square in Konjic.

The attendees expressed deep concern for the safety of pedestrians and drivers, especially for children who will soon be starting school.

The gathering followed a recent traffic accident in which a female resident of Konjic was seriously injured, which for many was "the last straw".

- This should not have happened. It's only a matter of time before someone else is next - stated one of the citizens, while a mother of two expressed concern for her children.

- As a mother of two, I am worried about their safety because they will be starting school soon. That's why I came here to show my support.

It is high time to react, and I appeal to all citizens to respond in as large numbers as possible because this situation is unacceptable - she said.

Adi Husić, who sent a request for permission for the gathering on behalf of the citizens, addressed the gathered citizens, emphasizing that he is not the individual who initiated the gathering, but that he only stepped forward on behalf of everyone who expressed dissatisfaction due to the danger at the intersection.



- I am not the individual who organized this. You are all those who have expressed a form of dissatisfaction due to the fears and torture we experience daily - said Husić.

He confirmed the information that the City Administration of Konjic sent a letter to the Roads of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, expecting the traffic lights to be put into operation by Monday.

- I would like to tell everyone that this should be a lesson for the future, for the next season… That next year we will certainly not allow this and that we are ready to show in even larger numbers that this is our city and that the safety of our children, our elders, and all of us is important - Husić conveyed.

One of the gathered citizens called the explanation from the authorities that the traffic lights would operate on flashing yellow lights an "insult to intelligence". She believes that Konjic is constantly being marginalized and treated as a "small town" despite its importance.

- They constantly want to put us aside, they have literally multiplied us by zero - she emphasized, adding that she is glad that the people of Konjic have finally woken up and raised their voices, calling on them to fight for a life "like humans" in their city.

The gathering ended without incident, and a table was set up on site for signing a petition that will be sent to the relevant institution.
