State of natural disaster declared in Kladanj: Landfill burning since August 1, residents fear for their health

(Patria) - The Civil Protection Staff of the Municipality of Kladanj, at today's session, made a decision to declare a natural or other disaster due to a large fire at the landfill in Stanovi.

According to what residents of surrounding settlements claim for Patria, the stench is unbearable, and the fire has been raging for several days.

"It is simply impossible to breathe. The stench is so intense. We are afraid of diseases," said an eyewitness to Patria.

Otherwise, the fire at the City Landfill broke out on August 1 and is still active, although a large number of firefighters have been battling the blaze for five days.

The spread of smoke, which can affect people's health, presents a major problem.

At the session of the Civil Protection Staff, orders and conclusions were adopted, all for the purpose of undertaking activities, measures, and actions to extinguish the fire.

Although the local community requested the engagement of a helicopter for extinguishing, that request was denied due to the risk of methane explosion.
