
(Patria) - At the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS), the Radiology Clinic successfully performed the first mechanical thrombectomy on a patient with massive pulmonary embolism, a minimally invasive procedure to remove large thrombotic masses from the pulmonary arteries in critically ill patients.
The procedure was performed by a team of interventional radiologists, Dr. sci. med. Muris Bečirčić and Dr. sci. med. Haris Kurić, using a modern endovascular approach in the treatment of this, as stated by KCUS, severe and potentially fatal disease.
After the procedure, the patient was hospitalized for three days in the intensive care unit, after which, in stable condition, he was transferred to the ward without the need for oxygen support.
KCUS emphasizes that this case once again confirms the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in treating complex and life-threatening conditions.
- Close cooperation with the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases, led by doc. dr. Aida Mujaković, as well as with colleagues from the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, who participated in the patient's care and monitoring in the post-procedural period, was particularly important - stated the largest healthcare institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The introduction of such procedures represents an important step in the further development of minimally invasive therapies at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, and confirms the management's commitment to applying modern treatment methods through multidisciplinary cooperation and the development of new therapeutic programs, it was announced from the University Clinical Center Sarajevo.
