Leptospirosis epidemic declared in Sarajevo Canton

(Patria) - Minister of Health of Sarajevo Canton (KS) Enis Hasanović today issued an Order declaring an epidemic of the infectious disease leptospirosis for the endangered area - the territory of Sarajevo Canton.

Hasanović issued this order based on the epidemiological report of the Public Health Institute of KS and their proposal for declaring a leptospirosis epidemic, as well as with the expert opinion of the Public Health Institute of FBiH, and with the consent of the Federal Ministry of Health.

"During the duration of the leptospirosis epidemic, measures provided for by the Law on Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases ('Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH', No. 29/05) are being taken, as follows:

- reporting,

- epidemiological investigation,

- supervision of affected individuals,

- health education of the population,

- enhanced anti-epidemic deratization,

- extraordinary disinfection of public transport vehicles,

- intensified washing of streets and sidewalks,

- increased hygiene of parks and garbage collection,

- focused inspection supervision by the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs, as well as the implementation of other measures ordered by the Minister of Health of KS, or the Government of KS, based on the recommendations of the Public Health Institute of KS", the Order states.

The Ministry of Health states that they are monitoring the new situation and call on citizens to adhere to the measures recommended by the Public Health Institute of KS, which can be found on their website.
