Nearly 20 million people infected with coronavirus in India, Britain sends 1,000 ventilators

(Patria) - The United Kingdom will send another 1,000 ventilators to India to help the world's most affected country fight the coronavirus pandemic, it was announced from Downing Street.

This is the second major British donation to India, after 200 ventilators and 495 oxygen concentrators were sent to New Delhi on Tuesday, the BBC reported.

The United Kingdom will help India whenever it needs it, said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was scheduled to meet with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday, but the meeting was postponed due to the very severe epidemiological situation in India.

Additional aid to India was also announced by British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, after talks with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who will attend a meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of 7 in London tomorrow as a guest, FoNet reports.

In the past 24 hours, 368,147 new cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in India, bringing the total number of infected people in the country since the start of the pandemic to 19,925,604.

India's Ministry of Health said that in the past day, another 3,417 people died from the coronavirus infection, bringing the death toll in the country to 218,959.
