Hong Kong shivered from cold under the lowest temperatures in nearly 60 years, in any case unprecedented for a good part of the population, according to the local press, reports the Patria news agency.
The thermometer dropped to 3.3 degrees in urbanized districts while an icy wind blew at the same time. On the hills, temperatures were below zero.
These meteorological conditions have nothing in common with those prevailing in the eastern United States, paralyzed by an unprecedented snowstorm, or in China, hit by a wave of freezing cold. However, they are unusual in the former British colony where the climate is subtropical and central heating generally does not exist.
Meteorological services declared an alert due to "intense cold". "It is very cold and very windy. Warm clothing and avoiding prolonged exposure to winter winds are advised," the government warned. Meteorologist Wong Wai-kin explained that Hong Kong is experiencing the lowest temperatures in 59 years, writes Hina.
