Incomplete Remains of One War Victim Exhumed in Gradačac, Mine Clearance Conducted Prior

(Patria) - Incomplete remains of one victim of the past war were exhumed today at the Donje Krečane site in Gradačac, announced the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH.

The remains of this victim were discovered during construction works, specifically the cleaning of a canal next to the road at this site. On that occasion, a trench was dug up in which parts of clothing and the victim's remains were observed, and the local police, as well as the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, were immediately notified. Upon the team's arrival at the scene, it was determined that these were human remains falling under the mandate of the Institute, and an exhumation was urgently scheduled.

The exhumation began on July 8, but on that occasion, unexploded ordnance was also observed near the body. Therefore, the area first had to be demined, and the exhumation was continued and completed today.

After the exhumation, the victim's remains were transferred to the Commemorative Center in Tuzla, where they will undergo criminal-technical and forensic-medical processing, as well as the extraction of bone samples for the purpose of identifying the victim using the DNA method.

According to information available to the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, it is most likely a victim who was killed in this area in 1992.

The exhumation was carried out under the leadership of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and according to the order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
