In FBiH, more deaths than births in first seven months of this year

According to data from the Federal Institute of Statistics, in the first seven months of 2014, 10,495 people were born and 10,876 died, meaning that the rate of negative natural increase in FBiH at the end of July stood at 380, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

This situation is a consequence of demographic changes that were particularly visible in BiH during the aggression against BiH, but also afterwards, when a large number of BiH citizens left to seek a better life in various parts of the world. It is estimated that around 1.5 million people live outside BiH. In the last few years, there has been a trend of young, educated people leaving who see no future in BiH, better known as the „brain drain“.  

In the long term, negative natural increase will affect all aspects of social life, and the white plague has long been threatening us.

On the other hand, the number of marriages contracted in the same period this year is 5,622, while 585 divorces were recorded, which is slightly more than 10%. If this trend continues, the decline in the birth rate will become even more pronounced.

However, the question is what living conditions the population in BiH has. The number of employed in FBiH in July was 444,506, and the unemployed 389,861. And instead of political parties offering programs that will enable mass employment, prevent the departure of young people, encourage them to marry and have children with certain benefits, which is the practice in all developed countries of the world, here the battle is being fought over new divisions, and BiH is turning into a country of the elderly, writes Patria.
