Pension payments increased by 11.2 percent begin in FBiH

(Patria) - The Federal Ministry of Finance has secured funds and the payment of January pensions in FBiH, increased by 11.2 percent, has begun, in accordance with the amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy announced today.

Pensions have been paid to banks and post offices. Pensioners who receive their income through bank accounts will have access to the increased pension amounts starting tomorrow, while pensioners who receive pensions via check will have the increased amounts delivered in the coming days.

This payment marks the beginning of the application of the new legal solution, and it is important to emphasize that no pension has been reduced for any of the 465,000 pensioners in FBiH – all pension beneficiaries have received an increase.

According to the decision on advance adjustment, the lowest pension has been increased to 666.40 KM, the guaranteed pension is 795.31 KM, while the average independent pension is 841.98 KM, and the highest is 3,332 KM. All other pensions have also been increased in accordance with the law.

For pensioners who are eligible for a pension for the first time during 2026, the law has defined minimum old-age pension amounts depending on the length of pension service and paid contributions. In this way, a fairer and more transparent calculation system has been introduced, which values years of work and paid contributions.

The minimum old-age pension amount for those who will retire from this year with 20 years of service is at least 434.38 KM, for 20 to 25 years of service at least 470.58 KM, for 25 to 30 years of service at least 506.78 KM, for 30 to 35 years of service at least 542.98 KM, for 35 to 40 years of service at least 615.37 KM, and for 40 or more years of service at least 687.77 KM.

For beneficiaries of family and disability pensions, for whom the minimum pension amount has been determined, the law stipulates that it cannot be lower than 651.57 KM.

The mentioned amounts represent the minimum guaranteed amounts, while the actual pension amount depends on the total length of service and the salary levels during the working life, and in many cases can be significantly higher.

- Although the new model cannot fully resolve all the life challenges that pensioners face, it represents a correct and responsible solution that preserves the stability of the pension system.

This is a system on which almost half a million citizens depend today, as well as all those who will retire in the years to come - explained the Federal Minister of Labour and Social Policy Adnan Delić.

He added that, in a time of pronounced demographic challenges and accelerated population aging, most countries are opting to increase the retirement age. The Federation of BiH has not gone down that path, but through amendments to the law, it has enabled a different model that simultaneously protects the system and leaves the option of remaining in the labor market after the age of 65 for those who wish to do so.

The goal of these amendments is the long-term stability of the pension system, the protection of the rights of current pensioners, and the security of future generations, it was stated in the announcement.
