School year 2013/2014 ends today for elementary school students in FBiH

The school year 2013/2014 in FBiH for elementary school students ends today, and due to floods in some areas, the teaching process concluded in mid-May. Decisions on this were made by school administrations on the recommendation of the relevant ministries.

This is the situation in the municipalities of Maglaj, Olovo, and Zenica in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, where in some schools it was determined that the teaching process could not continue until the end of the school year, so it was decided that classes would end on May 14, 2014, in the Municipality of Olovo, for two elementary schools, “Hasan Kikić” and “Olovo”, as well as for the Mixed Secondary School “Musa Ćazim Ćatić” from Olovo. The same applies to elementary schools “Maglaj” and “Prva osnovna škola”, as well as the gymnasium “Edhem Mulabdić” and the Mixed Secondary School in Maglaj. Of the schools in the Municipality of Zenica, this decision applies only to the Elementary School “Ćamil Sijarić” Nemila.

The Ministry's recommendation to the teaching staff is to assign positive grades to all students who had failing grades in certain subjects, and to determine the overall success based on such a procedure. The same procedure will be followed for students in all elementary and secondary schools in the ZDK area who are prevented from attending classes due to the consequences of the natural disaster, writes Patria. 

For the 580 students of the Elementary School “Abdulvehab Ilhamija” from Željezna Polja, classes also ended in May. In elementary schools in the Posavina Canton, the school year ended at the end of May, writes Patria.

We remind you that in the devastating floods in the area of three cantons, more than 56 educational institutions were destroyed or damaged (Tuzla, Zenica-Doboj, Una-Sana), while reports with damage assessments on school facilities in the Posavina, Central Bosnia, and Sarajevo Cantons are still awaited.
