Civilian killed in Donetsk, shell completely destroys building

One residential building was completely destroyed in the shelling of the Spartak district in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, near the airport, local officials said.

The house in the center of Spartak burned to the ground after shelling intensified this morning, the Donetsk agency reported, citing local officials. Ukrainian forces opened heavy fire on the center of Donetsk last night, leaving parts of the city without electricity today. Officials of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said that one civilian was killed in this unprecedented shelling.

Ukrainian forces shelled Donetsk with 120-millimeter caliber guns. According to the Minsk peace agreement, weapons of this caliber were supposed to be withdrawn 50 kilometers from the front line. Officials of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics said that the success of the ceasefire depends solely on the Ukrainian side.
