The entire city participates in Travnik Days

One of the oldest cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Travnik, is celebrating its Municipality Days these days, writes the BiH news agency Patria. More than 80 various governmental and non-governmental organizations from Travnik, with more than 1,000 members, are participating in the event, which officially opened on the 19th and will last until March 31st.

- In fact, the number of participants is much larger. Because all our fellow citizens participate in the celebration of Travnik Municipality Days, some as participants in various performances, and others as the audience, which is very important – say the organizers of this event, adding that Travnik Days are the largest event in central Bosnia and by far the most organized days of a municipality in BiH.

The event is organized at several locations in the city. During the twelve days of March, elementary and high school students from the Travnik area, various choirs, and cultural-artistic societies will present themselves to the public.

Fishermen, beekeepers, medicinal herb growers, and small animal breeders will showcase their skills... A part of the event will also be dedicated to the fighters who lost their lives during the recent bloody conflicts in BiH.

The Old Town Fortress will host many exhibitions and other cultural events.

- Our goal is to showcase all the cultural and tourist heritage that this city has – the organizers note, adding that Travnik certainly has something to be proud of.

Travnik is located very close to the geographical center of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the large Lašva Valley, which connects the Bosna River valley in the west with the Vrbas River valley in the east, and over which one of the highest mountains in BiH, Vlašić, also looms.

The city of Travnik itself has a strong culture, dating back to the period when this city was the seat of the viziers of the Ottoman Empire, responsible for the Bosnian Eyalet. The old part of Travnik has existed since the period of Bosnian independence in the first half of the 15th century.

The city houses numerous mosques and churches, as well as the graves of important historical figures, and excellent examples of Ottoman architecture. The City Museum, built in 1950, is one of the most impressive cultural institutions in the region.

Travnik is the birthplace of Nobel laureate, writer Ivo Andrić, sports legend Miroslav Ćiro Blažević, dramatic artist Josip Pejaković, writer Nura Bazdulj-Hubijar, writer Muharem Bazdulj, and other public figures.
