At the Centre for Healthy Aging at Titova Street number 12, founded by the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo for its citizens of the third age, socializing begins as early as nine o'clock. After preventive-corrective gymnastics exercises suitable for that age group, socializing continued with singing and dancing, and it's like that almost every day. Until 3 PM, senior citizens spend time in various creative activities in the new, nicely equipped premises of the Centre for Healthy Aging, the Municipality of Centar announced, Patria reports.
- Since the official opening of the Centre for Healthy Aging in January this year, about 500 of our fellow citizens have joined its activities, improving the quality of their lives through socializing, friendships, education, and acquiring new knowledge, exchanging experiences with each other, and spending their free time in the best possible way. Such a large number of involved individuals is the best indicator of the justification for the realization of this significant project of the Municipality of Centar - emphasized Varja Nikolić, coordinator of the Centre for Healthy Aging.
The members of the Centre for Healthy Aging are most interested in preventive corrective-recreational gymnastics, a project in which about 150 citizens participate daily.
The volunteer of the Centre for Healthy Aging, Aldin Ferić, a professor of physical and health education, successfully leads this project. Members also have the opportunity to participate in educational and creative sections such as: English language, computer skills, music section (choir singing), art section, working with aluminum foil, decoupage, medicinal herbs, preparing cosmetic creams, learning self-defense techniques. In addition, the Centre for Healthy Aging organizes excursions and gatherings in nature (Bijambare, Igman, Trebević) for its members, and poetry gatherings are also planned.
- The Centre for Healthy Aging pays special attention to intergenerational solidarity through creative workshops with the participation of young people. Culinary workshops are recently being held where dishes are prepared according to old recipes of our grandmothers. Other workshops are also planned, such as Reality Therapy/Choice Theory, which aims to contribute to building better relationships and a better quality of life, and taking personal control for a quality life - said Varja Nikolić.
The Centre for Healthy Aging in the Municipality of Centar operates in the premises at Titova Street 12 (former restaurant La Famiglia). Working hours are from 9 AM to 3 PM every working day.
The Municipality of Centar invested half a million marks in the renovation and equipping of the Centre. In the Centre for Healthy Aging, with an area of 324 square meters, people of the third age have free, content-rich all-day stay; a day room, kitchen, social games room, and library are available to them. The Centre also has equipped rooms for various types of training and a computer room. Toilets are adapted for the elderly and disabled.
