Average raspberry yield in Bratunac, producers dissatisfied with purchase price

The raspberry yield this season was average, but we can say we are satisfied, at least as far as Bratunac is concerned, said Ivan Pejanović, president of the Management Board of the Raspberry Growers' Association „Vilamet“, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- People were damaged by floods, there was high humidity, at the end of May and beginning of June root suffocation occurred due to high humidity. We have precipitation every day, if it continues like this it could affect these autumn varieties. It is too late for any protection now, we hope the weather will improve – said Pejanović.

Otherwise, in the area of the Bratunac Municipality there are about 800 producers, and 160 hectares of land are under raspberry plantations. As for the purchase price, producers received a price of 3.20 KM from one buyer, and their request was that it should not be below 3 KM.

- We had meetings with cold storage operators and there was an advance price of 2.5 KM, and we asked that it should not be below 3 KM. Nevertheless, 99 percent of our production goes to Sweden and other European countries, and the quality of Bratunac raspberries is already known, and so it is this year despite the floods – said Pejanović for NAP.
