Funeral prayer for Sulejman Tihić, SDA president, held and burial in Bosanski Šamac

The funeral prayer for Sulejman Tihić, president of the SDA, was held and burial took place in Bosanski Šamac, Patria reporter states. The funeral prayer was held in the courtyard of the White Mosque and was led by the Rais al-Ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH, Husein ef. Kavazović.

- Our journey inevitably ends in one place from which we return to the Creator. In such a place, we part today with a father, husband, brother, and friend, with dear Sulejman Tihić. Once again, we witness the undeniable truth of our return to our Creator in the eternal life of the Hereafter. There, everyone will be shown what they have done. Whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, just as whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it - said Reis Kavazović.

Sons and friends laid Tihić to rest

More than thousands of BiH citizens who arrived in Bosanski Šamac today bid farewell to Tihić on his eternal journey.

Besides family, friends, and colleagues, the funeral prayer for Sulejman Tihić was attended by a large number of foreign politicians, the diplomatic corps, and representatives of cultural and public life in BiH. Tihić was buried in the courtyard of the White Mosque, which was his wish.

Thousands of citizens attended the funeral prayer

Sulejman Tihić was born in Bosanski Šamac on November 26, 1951.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo. From 1975 to 1983, he was a judge and public prosecutor, and then a lawyer until 1992.

He has been a member of the SDA since its founding in 1990, president of the Municipal Board in Bosanski Šamac, and a member of the Main Board. From May to August 1992, he was a detainee in Serb concentration camps in Bosanski Šamac, Brčko, Bijeljina, Batajnica, and Sremska Mitrovica.

Close friends and colleagues at Tihić's funeral prayer

From 1994 to 1996, Tihić worked as the head of the Consular Department of the BiH Embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany.

In the 1996-2000 mandate, he was elected as a representative in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS), and in the 2000-2002 mandate, he held the position of its vice-president.

In the general elections in 2002, he was elected as a member of the Presidency of BiH from the Bosniak people. From 2007 until his death, he served as the Speaker/Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

Sulejman Tihić passed away at the age of 63 after a long and serious illness, and in recent months he had been admitted to the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation of the Clinical Center in Sarajevo.
