1,798,889 Women Live in BiH, Average Age 40.73 Years

According to data from the Agency for Statistics of BiH, out of a total of 3,531,159 inhabitants (2013 census) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there were 1,798,889 women, or 50.94%. According to population censuses from 1879 to the 1931 census, there were more men in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while according to censuses from 1948 to 2013, there were more women, writes Patria.

Out of a total of 1,798,889 females in BiH, 264,743 are up to 14 years old, 1,241,294 are between 15 and 64 years old, and 292,852 are over 65 years old. According to the 2013 census, there were 28,069 people over 85 years old, of whom 19,017 were women.

The average age of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2013 census) is 40.73 years (men 38.24). Out of 1,534,146 females over 15 years of age, according to the 2013 census, 880,530 were married, 339,422 were never married, 257,047 were widows, and 57,147 were divorced.

Out of a total of 1,534,146 women over 15 years of age (according to the 2013 census), 426,346 had not given birth, 210,210 had given birth to one child, 528,094 to two, 221,238 to three, and 148,258 women had given birth to four or more children.

The illiteracy rate among women (over 10 years old) decreased from 23.28% in 1981 to 16.38% in 1991 and 4.76% in 2013. This indicator is significantly higher among the female population of BiH than the male population (0.79%).

At the time of the 1991 census, 22.03% (over 15 years old) had no schooling, and in 2013, it was 7.96%. At the same time, from 1991 to 2013, the percentage of women with higher education increased from 2.70% to 9.65%.

Of the 29,770 live births in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2015, 10,021 were born to mothers aged 25-29, 8,520 to mothers aged 30-34, 5,853 children to mothers aged 20-24, while the rest refers to mothers in other age groups.

The average age of mothers at the birth of their first child (according to 2015 data) in BiH was 27.17, at the birth of their second child 29.88, and at the birth of their third child 32.27 years.

Of the 19,686 marriages concluded in 2015, 6,360 were by brides aged 25-29, 6,181 by those aged 20-24, followed by 2,595 brides from the 30-34 age group, and the rest refers to other age groups.

According to the previous marital status of the brides, out of 19,686 marriages concluded (2015), 17,895 were previously unmarried, 1,603 were widows, and 188 were divorced.

The average age of a bride at the conclusion of her first marriage (2015) was 26.4 years.
