Day of Silence in BiH media and the region

Exactly seven days ago at 11:30 AM, the massacre at the editorial office of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo began. 12 people were killed. Today, we pay tribute to all colleagues who were killed for the words and images they conveyed. Today, we want to clearly tell everyone that force cannot be used to settle scores with thoughts and speech, reports the Patria News Agency. 

Today, we want to point out what our world would look like without journalists, media, and information. The attacks on media freedoms that we have witnessed (and are still witnessing) in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the horror that occurred in Paris, have led us to organize a Day of Silence.

"We invite all colleagues, all editorial offices, all news agencies, all bloggers and independent journalists, all citizens present on social networks... to join us in organizing the Day of Silence. A day on which we will reflect on all colleagues who died because of the words and images they conveyed. A day on which we will clearly tell all those who believe that force can be used to settle scores with thoughts – that we are still here. A day that should depict what our world would look like without journalists, media, and words," stated the Association of BH Journalists. 

This campaign was initiated by the organization Partnership for Social Development from Zagreb, and it was joined by BH Journalists, the Croatian Journalists' Association, the Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina, and numerous other media organizations.
