116 bottles of perfume hidden in a bus, caught at the border

A detailed inspection of a bus entering Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Orašje border crossing led to the discovery and temporary seizure of 116 bottles of perfume from well-known global brands, which were attempted to be smuggled into Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Indirect Taxation Authority announced, as reported by Patria.

The perfumes, which were attempted to be smuggled in a hidden compartment of a bus owned by a legal entity from Tuzla, were discovered using specialist equipment donated to UIO officials by the U.S. government through the EXBS program.

The equipment enables in-depth vehicle inspection, making it easy to detect specially constructed spaces in vehicles used for smuggling goods. This is how the perfumes and eau de toilettes of well-known global brands „LANCOME“, „PACO RABBANE“, „BVLGARI“, „CERRUTI 1881“ were discovered, totaling 116 pieces, which were not declared for import customs clearance but were attempted to be smuggled into Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Authorized UIO officials, in cooperation with customs officers at the Orašje border crossing, will file a misdemeanor report against the legal entity and its driver with the competent Municipal Court in Orašje.

Also, at the Pavlovića Most border crossing, a passenger motor vehicle entered Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Republic of Serbia, driven by a Serbian citizen with initials Z.J., who attempted to smuggle walnuts and hazelnuts in their shells.

The goods were hidden in the vehicle's trunk, consisting of 105 kg of walnuts and 6.5 kg of hazelnuts. Since it involved a foreign national, he was brought before the duty judge of the competent Basic Court in Bijeljina – Misdemeanor Division, who imposed a fine of 500 KM on the Serbian citizen and issued a protective measure of confiscation of the goods.
