Woman from Tuzla in Sebastian Kurz's Government: Alma Zadić Minister of Justice of Austria

(Patria)- Alma Zadić, a native of Tuzla, will be the new Minister of Justice of Austria, Austrian media report this morning.

This 35-year-old, born in Tuzla, will be the youngest Minister of Justice in the history of the country.

She fled from Tuzla to Vienna in 1994, completed law school in Austria, and then studied in New York at Columbia University.

When she returned from America, she worked as a lawyer for seven years. Due to her background, she was the target of verbal attacks in the past, specifically in June 2018 when, during her discussion on the protection of intelligence service officials, a member of the center-right Austrian People's Party (OVP) loudly interjected:

"You are not in Bosnia, don't mix that up." The MP was later identified as Johann Raedler. He later stated that he meant nothing bad and that he has "many positive points of contact" with Bosnia.

As Austrian Der Standard writes, today's nomination of Zadić for Minister of Justice from the Greens will be a mere formality because she enjoys great trust from the party leaders.

Her appointment will be symbolic because she is the first Austrian minister with an immigrant background.

Austrian conservatives Sebastian Kurz and the Greens reached a coalition agreement last night, which means Kurz's return to the post of chancellor and the first entry of the Greens into the Austrian government, confirmed the leaders of the two parties.

The agreement was confirmed in a brief statement to journalists by the chairman of the People's Party (OeVP) and former chancellor Sebastian Kurz, and the head of the Greens, Werner Kogler.

They did not go into the details of the agreement, and Kurz said they would be presented on Thursday. Kogler emphasized that Austria will become a European leader in the field of climate change. This is the first time the Greens have participated in an Austrian coalition government.
