Tuzla: Project 'I CANcer, WE CANcer' announced

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The goals and activities of the "I CANcer, WE CANcer" project were presented today in Tuzla.

At a press conference at the BIT Center, the PIPOL Association presented the project intended for children and young people suffering from and cured of cancer, their family members, and families of children who passed away prematurely, as well as campaigns to be implemented in the community by the end of April 2020 in the area of the city of Tuzla, the PIPOL association announced.

The "I CANcer, WE CANcer" project is being implemented within the framework of the Regional Programme for Local Democracy in the Western Balkans - ReLOaD, financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project will be implemented in the area of the city of Tuzla until the end of April 2020.

This project is being implemented with the aim of improving the social position of the aforementioned categories, through providing psychosocial assistance and support and improving social inclusion for at least 100 beneficiaries from the area of the city of Tuzla.

"Cancer is not just an individual's disease, cancer is simultaneously a family's disease, a society's disease. Individual and group work with project beneficiaries will help children and young people suffering from and cured of cancer and their family members to be psychologically empowered and socially included according to their capabilities, to function more successfully in the long-term fight for healing and recovery, and will give families of prematurely deceased children additional strength to continue living with the burden of irreparable loss. Work in the community will contribute to the development of awareness, empathy, and solidarity towards this group, which, along with institutional support, is a key prerequisite for their social inclusion," stated Amra Saračević, project manager.

The implementation of the project will contribute to the more successful social integration of at least one hundred primary project beneficiaries, the education of citizens of various age groups, as well as the establishment of multi-sectoral cooperation, which can serve as a foundation for future action towards this extremely sensitive social group.
