Prosecutor's Office Received Complaint Against Damir Došen for Insulting Victims in Prijedor

(Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has received a complaint against Damir Došen, convicted of war crimes in Prijedor, for inciting national, racial and religious hatred, i.e., insulting victims through posts on social networks.

The Prosecutor's Office confirmed to Detektor that the complaint was received via email.

“In accordance with the procedure, the complaint will be assigned to one of the prosecutors handling the case,” the BiH Prosecutor's Office confirmed.

Detektor reported that the user of the profile Damir Kain Došen, in response to a comment under a post about Prijedor on the Facebook profile of a certain Dean Deki, replied that “the white ribbons are made up” and called Bosniaks derogatory names.

“You made up the white ribbons, as well as all the lies you have spoken and still repeat like parrots, provide at least one, any evidence of white ribbons… there is none, because you did not wear white ribbons. You yourselves did yourselves the favor of being arrested and detained in the ceramic tile factory because of mass participation in attacks on the Serbian army and police,” the Facebook comment states.

The Hague verdicts established that the premises of the ceramic tile factory “Keraterm” was one of the camps in Prijedor, which the Crisis Staff in this town opened after Serbian forces carried out a series of attacks on villages and areas inhabited by non-Serb population. According to the verdicts, the first detainees were brought to “Keraterm” around May 25, and the camp was closed at the beginning of August 1992. During that period, a large number of prisoners were killed and subjected to abuse.

Došen was sentenced to five years in prison by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) after confessing to crimes in the “Keraterm” camp in Prijedor in 1992.

He was found guilty of, as the shift leader of guards, allowing persecution and violence against detainees in the camp, including beatings, rape, sexual abuse, as well as mistreatment, humiliation, psychological abuse and murders.

The Hague Tribunal established in at least two final verdicts that the non-Serb population of Prijedor was forced to “as a sign of loyalty to the Serbian authorities” hang white sheets in front of their houses and wear white scarves on their arms. The Tribunal established in the verdicts that several thousand people were killed during the war in Prijedor, and that thousands of Bosniaks and Croats passed through the camps.

Aleksandar Knjeginjić, also previously convicted of crimes in Prijedor, last year launched a petition against the Day of White Ribbons in this town. The BiH Prosecutor's Office received two complaints against him, one of which relates to organizing the petition against the Day of White Ribbons.
