Turkish government detained 1,682 people last week and arrested 516 for questioning over alleged links to militant organizations, the country's interior ministry reported on Monday, Reuters reports.
Individuals suspected of ties to Fethullah Gulen, whom official Ankara claims orchestrated the coup attempt in July, make up the majority of those detained, 1,096, and 426 of the total number arrested.
A total of 508 people were detained over links to Kurdish militants and another 78 arrested, the ministry statement said. The government detained 78 people and arrested 12 over links to the Islamic State.
