Turkey announced a referendum on the introduction of a presidential system

Turkey could hold a referendum on changing the Constitution to establish a presidential system, and discussions on this issue will accelerate in the coming period, a spokesperson for Turkish President Tayyipa Erdogana said on Wednesday, reports the Patria News Agency.

Ibrahim Kalin made this statement three days after the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) won a majority in the general elections, which represents a triumph for Erdogan (61) who wants to introduce a presidential system.

Early elections brought an absolute majority of seats to his party, which lost control of parliament in the June parliamentary elections. 

- An issue like the presidential system cannot be decided without the people. If the mechanism requires a referendum, then we will hold a referendum, Kalin told reporters.
