Turčalo: We perceive Dodik as too important a political figure

(Patria) - Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences (FPN) in Sarajevo, Sead Turčalo, was a guest on Hayat Television's "7 plus" show tonight. Hayat Television.

At the beginning, Turčalo answered the host's question about why, after months of euphoria, everything has stalled regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina's path to the European Union.

- What is happening in practice goes against what we must do. Because we are acting within a specific framework, it is impossible to work.

In that euphoria, we do not view politics within a realistic framework, failing to assess the actual situation. The European Union's green light was a matter of geopolitical circumstances, not our merits - says Turčalo.

Due to the inaction of state authorities and the failure to adopt the budget, BiH risks not receiving promised funds from the EU. These funds are very significant for the comprehensive progress of BiH and its path to the EU.

Turčalo believes that a part of the coalition has no interest in our country moving towards better paths.

- The questions themselves show how irrational the policy being pursued is. Especially from that part of the coalition led by SNSD, even though the entity is on its knees.

The content of the assembly's conclusions, which states that any progress of BiH is not in the interest of those who organized the assembly, is more important. Thus, those funds from the EU are not a priority for that part of the coalition.

Here we have a conflict between rational and irrational politics - says Turčalo.

In the public space of BiH, we can often hear politicians talking about the need to relax relations among themselves for things to move forward. So far, this relaxation has not yielded serious results.

Instead of relaxation, Turčalo points out, a comprehensive action plan from coalition partners is needed regarding what they can agree on.

- Relaxation of relations is not a step forward. We have had many instances of relations being relaxed. Instead of relaxing relations, an action plan is needed on what partners can agree on, and that should be the measure of their success or punishment.

Talking about relaxation without a concrete answer, without clearly stating what will be done, makes no sense - Turčalo states.

After the adoption of the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica, the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, presented his demands - he called for the dismissal of the BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović, Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković, and BiH Ambassador to the UN Zlatko Lagumdžija.

Turčalo says that, on one hand, the president of the BiH entity Republika Srpska is an important political figure, but on the other hand - we perceive him as too important.

- These are demands and messages with which he wants to entertain the public, thereby imposing his agenda. Our problem is that we respond to his agenda, which brings it to the forefront. The demand comes from a speaker who violates the Constitution. And we have not violated the Constitution in any way.

The fact that the Resolution is not in line with someone's historical narrative is not our problem. The ambassador's activities have shown that we are on the right side of history, and those who voted against are on some dark side - concluded Turčalo.
