At least eight people were killed after militants disguised as soldiers stormed a museum in Tunis and opened fire. The museum is located in the same building as the parliament, reports the news agency Patria.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that a hostage crisis is unfolding at the Bardo Museum. They state that seven tourists and one Tunisian citizen were killed. According to unconfirmed reports, the victims come from France, Spain, and Italy.
They also added that at least two armed attackers are in the building and that the buildings have been evacuated.
Members of parliament confirmed to AFP that they heard gunfire, but it is unclear whether the shooting occurred in the parliament or the museum. Photos of hostages have appeared online, but they have not been officially confirmed.
Reuters reports that security forces have surrounded the two attackers and that 160 tourists have been rescued from the museum. Currently, there are between 20 and 30 people in the museum.
