Tuka welcomed by over 15,000 people in Kakanj: I am proud!

More than 15,000 people tonight welcomed the world's fastest 800-meter runner, Amel Tuka, on the main city street in his hometown of Kakanj, writes the Patria News Agency.

Tuka was first welcomed today at the airport in Sarajevo, then in Zenica shortly after two o'clock, and after that, a spectacular celebration awaited him on the streets of Kakanj.

People of Kakanj and Tuka are celebrating on the street where Tuka took his first professional steps.

- As you were proud of me, I am proud of you – Tuka said, almost in tears, after which he thanked his great friend, the Mayor of Kakanj Municipality, Nermin Mandra.

Tuka is currently the world's fastest 800-meter runner. In just four days, he won two gold medals at competitions in Monaco and Switzerland. At the prestigious Diamond League on July 17th, with a time of 1:42.51 in the 800 meters, he captivated all athletics fans, achieved the 10th best time in the history of athletics, and broke his personal best and the Bosnian and Herzegovinian record.

Tuka is awaiting the World Athletics Championships in Beijing from August 22nd to 30th, and before that, he will take a break in his hometown of Kakanj, writes NAP.
