Tropical temperatures: Sarajevo without water?

Due to summer heat and very high air temperatures in the Sarajevo Canton area in the past period, KJKP VIK Sarajevo is recording record water consumption throughout the Canton, reports the Patria News Agency.

During the weekend, in some water supply zones, water delivery-consumption increased by up to 40%. The water level in the reservoirs managed by KJKP VIK Sarajevo is constantly dropping, so we are forced to reduce pressure at night to ensure sufficient quantities of water in the reservoir spaces and maintain regular daily water supply.

Although all water sources and underground water reserves are constantly decreasing, all sources are in the water supply system, so water is constantly being pumped from underground and from natural springs (when they are not turbid), and all pumping units are in operation.

As the period of high air temperatures continues in the coming period, it is expected that the yield of natural sources and underground water reserves will significantly decrease, and thus the inflow of water into the reservoirs will weaken.

Currently, the most critical water supply zones are the zones of the Podhrastovi, Sedrenik, Grdonj, Bjelave, Igman, Hrasnica, Buća potok I, and Buća potok II reservoirs. Generally, in all zones, there has been an enormous increase in water delivery-consumption, and the aforementioned zones stand out for their record water delivery-consumption.

We appeal to our valued consumers to use water as rationally as possible, to minimize watering gardens, washing yards, carpets, and other unnecessary wastage of drinking water, in order to ensure sufficient quantities of water in the reservoir spaces and maintain regular daily water supply.
