THREE CANDIDATES FOR RECTOR How the UNSA Senate election session will proceed

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The election session of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, starting at 11:00 AM in the Great Amphitheater of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo (Vilsonovo šetalište 9), in compliance with epidemiological measures.

At the election session of the Senate, candidates for the election of the Rector of the University of Sarajevo will publicly present their work programs for the 2020–2024 mandate period. The candidates for the position of Rector (in order of application submission) are: Prof. Dr. Elvir Čizmić, full professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Šaćir Filandra, full professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, full professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Sarajevo and the current Rector. 

After the presentation of the work programs by the candidates for the election of the Rector, the Senate will elect the Rector at the same session, and the voting procedure will be carried out by a commission appointed at that session.

The Rector is elected by the Senate by secret ballot, by a majority vote of the total number of Senate members. A total of 41 Senate members have the right to vote. After the completion of the Rector election procedure at the same session, the Senate authorizes a member of the Senate to sign the decision on the election of the Rector. The Senate's decision on the appointment of the Rector is final, and administrative litigation can be initiated against it.

The Rector is elected for a four-year term.

The Rector's term, as a rule, begins on October 1st in the year of election and ends on September 30th in the year the term expires.

Journalists, cameramen, and photojournalists will be allowed to attend the part of the session where the candidates for the election of the Rector will present their work programs for the 2020–2024 mandate period.
